About Us
For more than 100 years, Hawaiian Electric Company has provided the energy that has fueled the islands' development from a Hawaiian kingdom to a modern state. Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), and its subsidiaries, Maui Electric Company, Ltd. (MECO), and Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. (HELCO), serves 95% of the state’s 1.2 million residents on the islands of O`ahu, Maui, Hawai`i Island, Lana`i and Moloka`i.
The energy we use is an essential but limited resource necessary to maintaining our quality of life. In a changing world, Hawaiian Electric has evolved to offer more than electricity.
Today, the company also provides energy solutions to help customers save money and use energy more efficiently. Hawaiian Electric also continues to pursue the use of more renewable energy alternatives to help ensure a sustainable future for our islands.

More about HECO:
Financial Information: See the latest financial report on the HEI Web site (link opens new window).
Energy Issues: Electricity drives our economy and our society, and yet we almost take it for granted. Ensuring the energy is there for your homes and businesses is a 24-hour-a-day job. It's a complex business with responsibilities we take very seriously. The following fact sheets offer an overview of our business and discuss some key energy issues.
Company Position on Global Warming: Hawaiian Electric Company shares the very serious concerns of many regarding the potential effects of global warming and human contributions to this phenomenon, including the burning of fossil fuels for electricity production, transportation, manufacturing, agricultural activities and deforestation.
To effectively address global warming, actions addressing all contributing sources must be taken with priority given to those which provide the greatest benefit for the costs involved. To be successful, the response to global warming requires commitment by private sector businesses, all levels of government, and every member of the public.
At Hawaiian Electric, we remain committed to taking direct action to mitigate the contributions to global warming from electricity production. Such action has and will continue to include promoting aggressive energy conservation and transitioning to clean, efficient and eco-effective energy production in all markets that we serve.

Award-winning Service: Hawaiian Electric Company is the proud recipient of the electric utility industry's highest honor -- the Edison Award. HECO received the 1994 Edison Award for meeting customer needs by helping control energy costs and reducing Hawaii's dependence on imported oil through its commercial heat pump water heating program.
